~Proverbs 16:3~

“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” Proverbs 16:3

How are some ways you can commit your work to the Lord? How do you know that your desires and plans are from Him? That they are pleasing to Him?

You maybe wondering what it means to commit all to Christ. Think of it this way, when a bride and groom get married they make a commitment to each other. They promise to love and to hold, no matter what. To trust each other. When we commit things to God we are putting our trust in Him. We are saying we trust Him with this and that we don’t need to worry and always have control. With God, unlike in a marriage, He never leaves. He is always trust worthy.

How often though do we say we have given something to Him but are still trying to take control? I know that happens a lot for me. Sometimes I don’t even realize that is what I’m doing at first. But to commit your work to the Lord is to put your trust in Him. To let go of your tight hold. To be willing to step back and say Lord you can take it, you can have it.

But once you give it to Him what do you do? You let go of control. So you maybe wondering if there is anything left for you to do. You may feel at a loss as to what next. Just because you give control over to God doesn’t mean that He doesn’t have anything for you to do. When you give Him control you follow His guidance. His gentle leading. You continue on but are not worrying all the time whether or not it will work out or be ok. You trust that no matter what that it is ok. It is going to work if it is His will. Maybe you give something over to Him and it doesn’t work out. When that happens He maybe saying that He has something else planned for you. Or you did all that you where supposed to do there and that it is time for something new or someone new to take over. I had plans, I was going to be a midwife. I studied for three years. But the Lord kept shutting doors instead of opening them. It took me three years to finally listen to Him and realize He had a better plan for me. I had committed my midwifery plans to God but then took back control instead of listening to His guidance.

All these years later I finally realize that He used that time to show me that He had something else for me. But I still wish that I had listened a lot sooner. When you make plans pray about them. Ask the Lord if they are what He desires for you. If unsure ask others to pray with you. Listen to what you believe the Lord is telling you. If they are moral and right. If they are pure and kind. They maybe the Lord guiding you to something amazing.
