“The tongue has the power of life and death…” Proverbs 18:21
The power of life and death. The power to build up or tear down. To breathe hope or to bring destruction. The power of the tongue is in the power of our words.
What we say is just as important as what we do, sometimes even more so. When we talk most of the time we don’t think before we speak. I know that I fall into this often enough. But when we give free reign to our mouths to say whatever it wants, trouble soon follows. The Lord says to bridle our tongues. To think before we speak. To understand that what we say and how we say things can really hurt others or lift them up.
The Lord calls us to speak with kindness and love. To talk about the good and not just the bad. He wants us to build others up. To encourage them and to speak His truths. What we say even can have the power to change how someone see us and even how the see themselves.
We have a responsibility as God’s children to spread His love and kindness. To be the light on the hill as He calls us too. To show others through our words as well as actions God’s love for them.
So I challenge you this week to really focus on what you’re saying this week. Are you being encouraging? Are you focusing on the good? Or are you focusing to much on the bad? Are you tearing down? Or building up?
Just a little food for thought for this week. 🙂
