~New Deck~

Hey everyone,

So, I haven’t done too much this week. I was going to have an OCC sewing get together on Tuesday, but it ended up having to rescheduled to Sunday. That still works for me. We will be working on finishing our headbands and maybe work on writing cards to the kids. 🙂

But what I really wanted to share this Friday is that we are getting a new deck! Well new boards for the deck. My Dad has been working really hard on replacing the boards that support the deck. He replaced the ones that were really rotten. Some of the boards look bad but are a lot sturdier than they look. Here is a picture of what it looks like right know.

They started putting down the new boards on the ramp today and it is starting to look really good. 🙂 I can’t wait to see what it will look like once the whole deck is done! We will also be staining the railings.

You can see a little bit of the old board on the end of this picture. The new boards are not made of wood but are what’s called composite boards. They won’t rot like wood will and carpenter bees will not put holes in it. Our deck has been carpenter bee central for years. They leave prefect little holes all over under the deck making the boards rot faster than usual. We should have a lot less of them now with the composite boards covering most of the deck.

We still have wood support beams so they will go to those. But they seemed to like the cover boards the most. It will be so nice to go out onto the deck and not be chased by carpenter bees. It is funny though to see a little yellow nose bee zoom right into your face to intimate you. Here are a couple of pictures I found on google.

The male ones are the ones that chase us when we are on the deck. They female ones leave holes everywhere.

We will be able to have our fall tea party outside on our new deck when it’s done. I’m looking forward to that!

Well that is all for now!
